Calder Electrical
Calder Electrical is a demonstration website created to show how Firrhill Web can approach a complete website for a local trade business.
The project was designed around a fictional Edinburgh electrician and built to demonstrate the structure, functionality and level of finish available in a small business website.
The Brief
A professional website for a local electrician
The aim was to create the type of website a small electrical business could realistically use to present its services and generate customer enquiries.
The site needed to feel professional without becoming overly complicated, work well on smaller screens and make it easy for potential customers to find the information they need.

What went into the website
Calder Electrical was developed as a complete multi-page small business website rather than simply a visual mock-up.
Responsive Design
Layouts were designed and tested across desktop, tablet and mobile screen sizes.
Service Pages
Dedicated pages were created for individual electrical services rather than placing everything onto a single page.
Contact System
A working PHP contact form was developed with validation and basic anti-spam protections.
SEO Foundations
Page metadata, structured data, sitemap and robots configuration were included.
Performance
Images and page assets were reviewed and optimised with performance in mind.
Accessibility
Contrast, responsive behaviour, navigation and other accessibility considerations were reviewed during development.
Tested Before Completion
Built beyond the visual design
The finished demo was tested using Google's Lighthouse auditing tools as part of the final quality checks.
Testing covered performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO alongside manual checks across different screen sizes.
